Villa Victor ja Hymyilevä Oulu 26 – Yhdessä saamme enemmän aikaan

On hienoa päästä kertomaan yhdestä hankkeemme tärkeästä kumppanista: monikulttuurikeskus Villa Victorista. Se sijaitsee Oulun sydämessä, Oulu10:n tiloissa, ja on paikka, johon on aina helppo tulla. Villa Victorissa ovet avautuvat kaikille – olipa taustasi tai tilanteesi mikä tahansa. Siellä tunnelma on välitön, ihmisläheinen ja matalan kynnyksen.
Villa Victorin toiminta on monipuolista ja innostavaa: maksutonta suomen kielen opetusta, hyödyllisiä infotilaisuuksia ja erilaisia tapahtumia ympäri vuoden. Monelle ovat tuttuja esimerkiksi Welcome to Oulu, Värikäs Ravintola ja Itsenäisyyspäivän juhla. Näissä tilaisuuksissa yhdistyvät ihmiset eri taustoista, ja ilmapiiri on aina lämmin ja vastaanottava.
Vuonna 2026 Hymyilevä Oulu 26 -valokuvanäyttely kulkee Villa Victorin matkassa. Kilpailun parhaat kuvat ja tarinat tuodaan osaksi heidän tapahtumiaan. Se tarkoittaa, että taide ja arjen kohtaamiset nivoutuvat yhteen – ja ihmiset voivat kohdata toisensa yhtä hyvin sanojen kuin kuvien kautta.
Hymyilevä Oulu 26 on virallinen osa Oulu2026-kulttuuriohjelmaa ja yksi sen kansainvälisistä kärkihankkeista. Hankkeen toteuttaa Augmenters-kulttuuriyhdistys, jonka perustin Etelä-Espanjan Riogordossa. Yhdistyksen tavoite on aina ollut tuoda yhteen erilaisia ihmisiä ja kulttuureja, ja tätä samaa ajatusta jatkamme nyt Oulussa.
Hankkeen päämäärä on yksinkertainen mutta tärkeä: antaa ääni vähemmistöille ja yksinäisille – positiivisuuden kautta. Nostamme esiin hymyjä, lämpöä ja arjen pieniä valonpilkahduksia. Juuri ne tekevät elämästä merkityksellistä.
Vuoden 2026 alussa käynnistyy valokuvauskilpailu ja sen rinnalla digitaalinen valokuvauskurssi. Kurssi ei keskity tekniikkaan, vaan siihen, miten kuvasta voi tehdä koskettavamman: miten valo ja varjo kertovat tarinaa, miten pienet hetket voivat avata kokonaisen uuden näkökulman. Kuvat voi ottaa puhelimella – välineellä, joka on meille kaikille tuttu.
Kesäkuun 10. päivänä 2026 koittaa hankkeen kohokohta: juhlagaala Pohjankartanossa. Siellä palkitsemme kilpailun parhaat kuvat, avaamme näyttelyn ja kuulemme keskusteluja sekä musiikkia Suomesta ja Espanjasta. Heti gaalan jälkeen näyttely lähtee kiertämään ympäri Oulua.
Villa Victorin kanssa tehtävä yhteistyö on minulle erityisen tärkeää. He ovat jo pitkään tarjonneet tilan, jossa oululaiset ja uudet tulijat voivat kohdata ja rakentaa yhteistä kotikaupunkia. Kun tähän lisätään valokuvat ja taide, syntyy uusia väyliä ymmärrykseen ja yhteyteen.
Haluan, että kilpailuun osallistuminen on jokaiselle mahdollista. Kuka tahansa voi ottaa kuvan, lähettää sen ja nähdä oman työnsä osana näyttelyä. Näin syntyy tilaa uusille ystävyyksille ja kokemuksille. Ja kun kuvat kulkevat Villa Victorin tapahtumien mukana, ne tuodaan suoraan sinne, missä ihmiset muutenkin kohtaavat.
Vuonna 2026 Villa Victor ja Hymyilevä Oulu 26 kulkevat rinnakkain. Yhdessä ne muistuttavat meitä siitä, että moninaisuus on voimavara – ja että yksi hymy voi olla silta kahden ihmisen välillä, kielestä ja taustasta riippumatta.

Villa Victor and Smiling Oulu 26 – Together we achieve more
I am happy to share about one of our project’s important partners: the multicultural center Villa Victor. It is located in the heart of Oulu, in the Oulu10 building, and it is a place where it is always easy to come. At Villa Victor the doors are open to everyone – no matter your background or situation. The atmosphere there is open, welcoming and low-threshold.
Villa Victor offers diverse and inspiring activities: free Finnish language lessons, useful information sessions and different events throughout the year. Many are familiar with events such as Welcome to Oulu, the Colourful Restaurant and the Independence Day celebration. These occasions bring together people from different backgrounds, and the atmosphere is always warm and inviting.
In 2026 the Smiling Oulu 26 photo exhibition will also travel with Villa Victor. The best photos and stories from the competition will be brought into their events. This means that art and everyday encounters will intertwine – and people can meet each other as much through words as through images.
Smiling Oulu 26 is an official part of the Oulu2026 cultural programme and one of its international flagship projects. The project is carried out by Augmenters Cultural Association, which I founded in Riogordo, southern Spain. The association’s goal has always been to bring together different people and cultures, and this is the same idea we continue now in Oulu.
The aim of the project is simple but important: to give a voice to minorities and lonely people – through positivity. We highlight smiles, warmth and the small sparks of light in everyday life. Those are the things that make life meaningful.
At the beginning of 2026 the photo competition will start, along with a digital photography course. The course does not focus on technicalities, but on how to make an image more touching: how light and shadow tell a story, how small moments can open up a whole new perspective. Photos can be taken with a phone – a tool that is familiar to us all.
On June 10, 2026 the highlight of the project will take place: the gala at Pohjankartano. There we will award the best competition photos, open the exhibition, and hear discussions as well as music from Finland and Spain. Right after the gala the exhibition will begin touring around Oulu.
The cooperation with Villa Victor is especially meaningful to me. They have long provided a place where the people of Oulu and newcomers can meet and build a shared city. When photography and art are added to this, new paths of understanding and connection emerge.
I want participation in the competition to be possible for everyone. Anyone can take a photo, send it in and see their work as part of the exhibition. This creates space for new friendships and experiences. And when the photos travel with Villa Victor’s events, they are brought directly to where people are already meeting.
In 2026 Villa Victor and Smiling Oulu 26 will walk side by side. Together they remind us that diversity is a strength – and that a simple smile can be a bridge between two people, no matter their language or background.
