Why does Smiling Oulu 26 exist?
 

Smiling Oulu 26 is a photography project that aims to increase understanding, visibility, and inclusion. We want to create space for people whose stories are not always seen in everyday life – for example, those who experience loneliness, those who feel different, people from minority backgrounds, or anyone who feels they are often overlooked.
 

We want to highlight small but meaningful moments from everyday life. Moments that can arise from a kind encounter, shared laughter, or simply being present.
 

Our goal is to create an open and welcoming space where everyone can be seen as they are. Photography is accessible to everyone, and that is why it is a natural way to build connection between people.
 

We believe that diversity, community, and acceptance can change the way we see one another. We want to show how even small encounters can increase understanding and create meaningful connections.
 

The aim is to inspire reflection and conversation about how we can meet each other more openly. At the same time, we want to encourage people to notice those around them in a new way – including those who are not always seen.
 

Smiling Oulu 26 is a low-threshold project. Taking part does not require special skills or equipment, only the willingness to meet another person.
 

This is not only about photography. It is about connection, understanding, and the idea that everyone deserves to be seen.
